Description

MAIN FUNCTIONS
To conduct accurate, timely, and reliable laboratory testing and reporting while ensuring effective quality control, proper maintenance of laboratory equipment, adequate management of reagents and supplies, confidentiality of patient information, and compliance with laboratory, infection control, HSE, and regulatory standards.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collect, analyze, and accurately report laboratory test results.
  • Conduct quality control checks and ensure laboratory equipment is functional and properly maintained.
  • Manage laboratory reagents, consumables, ordering, receiving, and inventory.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and prepare periodic activity reports.
  • Ensure confidentiality of patient information and laboratory results.
  • Maintain compliance with infection control, medical waste management, HSE, and regulatory requirements.
  • Keep laboratory methods and practices up to date with current standards and technology.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to support effective patient care.
  • Report equipment faults, incidents, hazards, and unsafe practices promptly.
  • Maintain high professional, ethical, and service standards in all laboratory activities.

Job Requirement

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate of the Institute of Medical Laboratory Science (AIMLS).
  • Fellowship of the Institute of Medical Laboratory Science (FIMLS) is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience in a reputable healthcare institution.
  • Current professional registration and practising licence with the relevant regulatory body.
  • Strong laboratory testing, analysis, and reporting skills.
  • Good knowledge of laboratory quality control and assurance procedures.
  • Proficiency in laboratory equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Good knowledge of infection prevention, medical waste management, and HSE practices.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and record-keeping.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.
