Job Summary
The Solar Power/Panel Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and related electrical equipment. The role involves ensuring solar power systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with industry standards and company procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Install solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, mounting structures, inverters, batteries, and associated electrical components.
- Conduct site assessments and prepare installation plans based on project specifications.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on solar energy systems.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose faults in solar panels, inverters, batteries, charge controllers, and electrical wiring.
- Monitor system performance and identify opportunities for efficiency improvement.
- Conduct system testing, commissioning, and performance verification after installation.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and inspection records.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety regulations, environmental standards, and company HSE policies.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, technical manuals, and installation schematics.
- Assist in upgrading and expanding existing solar power systems.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and emergency maintenance requests.
- Provide technical support and recommendations to clients and project teams.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and testing instruments.
Job Requirement
Qualifications & Experience
- OND, HND, B.Sc., or Technical/Vocational Certification in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Electronics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3–5 years' experience in solar PV installation and maintenance.
- Experience working with inverters, battery storage systems, and electrical distribution systems.
- Knowledge of solar power system design and installation standards.
- Relevant solar installation certifications will be an added advantage.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Solar PV installation and maintenance.
- Electrical troubleshooting and fault diagnosis.
- Knowledge of AC/DC electrical systems.
- Knowledge of battery technologies (lithium-ion, AGM, Gel, etc.).
- Use of testing equipment such as multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers, and solar analyzers.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Good communication and reporting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and commitment to safety.
